The administration of the Spanish city of Barcelona has decided to demolish the hotel owned by the Argentine football player Lionel Messi. The player spent 30 million euros on the purchase of this hotel.

According to El Confidencial, the 77-room building was decided to be demolished because it does not meet city building codes. The building is located near the Camp Nou, the home stadium of the former footballer’s club Barcelona.

The player also owns hotels in Ibiza and Mallorca, which are part of the Majestic Hotel Group. In 2017, Messi spent 30 million euros to buy a residence in Barcelona.

It is noted that the player bought the building, not knowing that the city administration was going to demolish it, because it did not meet building codes.

Earlier, on November 29, Messi won the seventh Ballon d’Or of his career.
